The Holdovers, a review-ish

The Holdovers (2024)

I don't know how one should review a movie. In fact, this is the first time I try something longer than "Yeah, it's good..." but I'm on my way to give this writing thing a try. I do like this one, I choked up lots of times during the 2 hour run.

It is the story of three peopldealing with tragedy and depression during the Christmaas Holiday which draws them closer somehow. A mourning woman who lost her son to the Vietnam War, but finds hope in family and her soon to be born nephew. A man dealing with regret and resentment because of unattained goals, he finds empathy, kindness and justice in his new friends. A kid carrying the weight of guilt and self-loathing, who finds shelter in the love of his new friends.

I see themes of depression, rage, self-hate, alcoholism, frustration, nihilism, hope, family, friendship. All things that we share at one point or another. All part of our human experience.

I can see myself on these three, at least I do empathize with them.

I don't know what kind of shit review this is, this feels more like disconnected feelings and words on a page. Completly disorganized, I tried.

Anyways, great movie. Highly recommended if you like a darkish-dramedy.
